Why education leaders should prioritize asset-based edtech

Key points:

  • In schools, an asset-based approach encourages partnership by celebrating progress and growth
  • Shifting away from this deficit-based approach requires leaders to change the way they see their students
  • See related article: How to focus on classroom accessibility

Since the pandemic began, the number of technologies districts use has nearly tripled, but not all of these tools have been effective. As education leaders review the utility and effectiveness of those solutions, an asset-based approach is an essential criterion in the evaluation process.

Leaders should be wary of products that convey urgency and impact through deficit-based design. A deficit-based approach emphasizes the weakness of groups or individuals, calling attention to negative outcomes such as falling behind or missing out. Although it is a pervasive advertising tactic, studies show that a deficit-based approach can affect students’ long-term resilience and lead them to feel isolated when they are seen as “the problem.”…Read More

  • Embracing new technologies helps education leverage adaptive technology that engage student interest
  • See related article: AI tools are set to impact tutoring in a big way

Since its launch in November 2022, ChatGPT has dominated conversations in the media landscape and within the education industry. A key conversation focuses on weighing its benefits versus risks, and many education institutions have been quick to implement bans on the technology altogether for fears of plagiarism in written works. But is this the right course of action to take?

As technology evolves, industries must evolve alongside it, and education is no exception – especially in an era where students heavily and regularly engage in technology and its applications. Instead of being afraid of the unknown, educators and leaders should navigate these changes with curiosity and an open mind and embrace the shake up the education industry has been waiting for. ChatGPT can be the answer we’re looking for in our search for the ideal, personalized student experience–and ultimately student success.…Read More

What is a predictive metaverse? The future of guided learning

The word ‘metaverse’ has certainly been used a lot recently, specifically within conversations around the advancement of technologies and the ever-changing landscape of how we work and live. More often than not, it is usually connected to the gaming industry and does not tend to come up in conversations about education. However, the AI-powered virtual world is becoming increasingly appealing to content creators and educators as they recognize how it can be used to improve engagement and creativity and create personalized learning programs.

What is a predictive metaverse?

A predictive metaverse is a hypothetical concept that refers to an advanced form of a virtual world that is powered by AI and machine learning algorithms. Listen EVERYWHERE Helps Student Fully Participate in Musical Theater

BLUFFDALE, UTAH – Listen Technologies Corporation, a leading provider of wireless listening solutions for 24 years, is proud to report that Listen EVERYWHERE has helped a high school student with hearing loss participate more fully in his school’s musical theater production of Anastasia.

Fremont High School (Plain City, Utah) Senior Hayden Reeve has a cochlear implant and utilizes an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter, but that was not enough to help him keep track of lines, songs, and other stage cues. For previous productions at other schools, Reeve would resign to signing just one musical piece because it was too difficult to keep up with everything happening on and off the stage.

Paco Aguilar, a manufacturer’s representative and former Broadway sound engineer who consulted with Reeve’s teachers at Fremont High School, suggested the Listen EVERYWHERE assistive listening system to assist Reeve in participating more fully in productions. Listen EVERYWHERE streams live or recorded venue audio over Wi-Fi to smartphones.  …Read More
